The Brief

The homeowner wanted to reduce their electricity bills and become less reliant on the grid. As a bungalow with a south-facing roof and minimal shading, the property was an ideal candidate for solar PV with battery storage.

They needed a system that could generate enough energy during the day to cover household use and store surplus for evenings and overnight — without over-sizing the installation for the property.

Our Solution

We installed 8 high-efficiency Aiko solar panels paired with a 3.6kW SolaX hybrid inverter and 10.2kWh of SolaX Triple Power battery storage. This combination was sized to match the household's consumption profile — maximising self-consumption and minimising grid import.

The hybrid inverter manages solar generation, battery charging and grid export automatically. During sunny days, surplus energy charges the battery first. Once full, excess is exported to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee. In the evening, the battery discharges to power the home — significantly reducing the amount of electricity purchased at peak rates.

Estimated self-consumption with battery storage

£800–£1,200

Estimated annual energy bill savings

8–10 yrs

Estimated payback period

The installation was completed cleanly, with all cabling routed neatly and external walls and paths left tidy. The SolaX inverter and battery unit were wall-mounted in a sheltered external location with clear access for future maintenance.

The system is MCS-compliant, qualifying the homeowner for Smart Export Guarantee payments on surplus energy exported to the grid. With 10.2kWh of usable storage, the household can cover most of its evening and overnight demand from stored solar energy — even during shoulder months.
