CCTV Installation for a Commercial Premises in West Sussex (Warehouse & Yard Security)

CommercialCCTVWest Sussex

Overview

A commercial business operating from a warehouse and yard premises in West Sussex contacted us about upgrading their security. The site had experienced a break-in attempt and the existing camera system — a mix of ageing analogue units — was no longer fit for purpose. Several cameras had failed entirely, and the recording equipment was unreliable.

The client needed a modern, wired CCTV system covering the full perimeter of the yard, all entry and exit points, the warehouse interior, and the main office entrance. Remote viewing was essential so the business owner could monitor the site outside of working hours.

Project Summary

  • Location: West Sussex
  • Property: Commercial premises (warehouse / yard)
  • System: Multi-camera CCTV system with NVR recording
  • Access: Remote viewing enabled
  • Installation type: Wired system

Commercial CCTV Installation in West Sussex

Commercial premises across West Sussex — from industrial estates and distribution centres to retail units and agricultural sites — face a range of security challenges. Theft, vandalism, and unauthorised access are ongoing concerns, particularly for businesses with outdoor yards, loading bays, or high-value stock. A properly designed CCTV system is one of the most effective deterrents and provides critical evidence if an incident does occur.

For warehouse and yard environments, camera placement is everything. Perimeter coverage needs to capture all access points, gates, and fence lines, while internal cameras should cover loading areas, stock zones, and any blind spots. Infrared night vision is essential for sites that aren't fully lit after hours, and weatherproof housings are a must for any cameras exposed to the elements. Getting the positioning right from the start avoids gaps in coverage that only become apparent after an incident.

Remote monitoring has become a standard requirement for commercial CCTV. Business owners and site managers need the ability to check live feeds and review recorded footage from their phone or laptop, wherever they are. Combined with motion-triggered alerts and reliable NVR recording with sufficient storage, a modern wired system gives businesses genuine peace of mind — not just a camera on the wall, but a working security tool they can rely on day and night.

The Problem

The existing CCTV system had been installed over a decade ago and had deteriorated significantly. Two of the six original cameras had stopped working entirely, and the remaining four produced low-resolution footage that was difficult to use for identification. The DVR unit was outdated, with limited storage and no remote access capability.

After a recent attempted break-in at the yard gate, the business owner reviewed the footage and found it was too grainy to be useful. The police were unable to take the investigation further without clearer evidence. The yard — used for storing vehicles, equipment, and materials — was particularly vulnerable at night, with no cameras covering the rear perimeter or the secondary access gate.

The client wanted a complete replacement: a reliable, high-resolution system with full site coverage, night vision, and the ability to view cameras remotely via a smartphone app. They also needed the system to be expandable, as they were planning to lease an adjacent unit within the next year.

Our Solution

We carried out a full site survey, mapping every access point, blind spot, and area of concern. Based on the site layout and the client's requirements, we designed a multi-camera wired CCTV system using high-resolution IP cameras with infrared night vision, installed at strategic positions around the warehouse, yard perimeter, gates, and office entrance.

All cameras were connected via Cat6 cabling back to a centralised network video recorder (NVR) housed in a secure, ventilated cabinet inside the office. The NVR provides continuous recording with motion-triggered flagging, making it easy to find relevant footage without scrolling through hours of video. Storage capacity was specified to retain a minimum of 30 days of footage at full resolution.

Remote viewing was configured through a dedicated app, giving the business owner live access to all camera feeds from any device. Push notifications were set up for motion detection on key zones — the yard gates and rear perimeter — so any after-hours activity triggers an immediate alert.

The installation was completed over two days. We removed the old system, ran new cabling through existing containment where possible, and used weatherproof external trunking for new runs. All cameras were positioned and angled on-site with the client present, ensuring they were satisfied with the coverage before we commissioned the system. We also pre-ran cabling to the boundary wall nearest the adjacent unit, ready for future expansion.

The Outcome

The new system provides complete coverage of the site with no blind spots. The client now has clear, high-resolution footage of every access point, the full yard perimeter, the warehouse interior, and the office entrance — day and night. Image quality is significantly better than the old system, with faces and number plates clearly identifiable.

Remote viewing has been the biggest improvement from the client's perspective. They check the site from home each evening and receive instant alerts if motion is detected in the yard outside of working hours. On two occasions since installation, the alerts have flagged wildlife triggering the sensors — but the peace of mind that the system is watching has been invaluable.

The system is ready to expand. When the adjacent unit is leased, adding cameras to cover the new space will be straightforward — the cabling is already in place, and the NVR has spare channel capacity. No additional groundwork or major infrastructure changes will be needed.

Cost Range

A commercial CCTV installation of this type typically costs between £2,500 and £6,000, depending on the number of cameras, cable run distances, NVR specification, and any structural or electrical work required.

Smaller systems for single-unit commercial premises start from around £1,500. Larger sites with extensive perimeters, multiple buildings, or specialist requirements (such as ANPR or analytics) will be higher. We provide a detailed, fixed quote after a free site survey — no hidden costs.
